About The Position

The Department of Mental Health (DMH) is seeking dedicated, compassionate, and exceptional Registered Nurses for a seasonal position at the Pocasset Mental Health Center. This role involves assessing and meeting the healthcare needs of patients, administering medications and treatments, functioning as part of a multidisciplinary team, and maintaining patient records. The position emphasizes a person-centered approach, prioritizing patient safety and dignity. This is a full-time, 40-hour per week seasonal position for an anticipated duration of 90 days, with varying shifts (Day, Evening, and Night) available. Mandatory overtime is required. Seasonal positions do not offer employee benefits, with the exception of sick time accruals.

Requirements

  • Current and valid registration as a professional nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of nursing.
  • Knowledge of the terminology and standard abbreviations used in nursing.
  • Knowledge of the problems in providing nursing services to special client groups such as the mentally, physically, and/or emotionally handicapped.
  • Knowledge of standard nursing policies, procedures, methods and techniques.
  • At least one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience as a registered nurse in a recognized hospital, clinic or medical facility, or any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
  • Recent graduates from an approved school of nursing must have applied for the first available registered nurse examination.
  • Successful candidates will be required to acknowledge and attest to your vaccination status for both COVID-19 and Influenza.

  • Certification as Psychiatric Nurse by American Nurse Association.

Responsibilities

  • Transcribes all physicians’ orders and administers medications and treatments to help in the rehabilitation of the patients.
  • Completes admission assessment and initial nursing care plan based on health and safety issues by the end of the shift.
  • Provides primary nursing care to an assigned group of patients utilizing nursing process and following current standards of care.
  • Functions as a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team serving as a resource person regarding patient’s health issues.
  • Manages and supervises the nursing staff in the absence of a registered nurse of a higher grade.
  • Meets patient nursing care needs as charge nurse or primary nurse by communicating key patient information to appropriate nursing staff in order to insure integration coordination and continuity of patient care.
  • Participates in the admission, discharge and transfer of patients to facilitate a smooth transition.
  • Acts as leader or co-leader of patient treatment groups.
  • Assures patient safety and supervises staff.
