About The Position

The PACU in Main Hospital is a 20-bed unit operating 24/7/365, caring for patients of all ages and across all disease processes. The unit handles surgeries from various specialties including Ortho, Transplant, Neuro, Spine, ENT, GYN, Trauma, and Urology. It provides care for both ambulatory surgery patients and inpatients, and often accommodates ICU crash patients and med-surg patients awaiting beds post-surgery. While the unit typically hires nurses with 2 years of critical care or Level 1 ED experience, they are willing to train enthusiastic and motivated med-surg and new graduate nurses.

Requirements

• Minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse required.
• Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
• Advanced Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required prior to completion of orientation.
• RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date.
• Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
• Proficiency in manual dexterity and fine motor skills for tasks such as taking patient vitals, administering injections, or conducting physical exams.
• Capacity to lift and move patients or medical equipment as needed.
• Visual acuity and color perception to accurately read medical charts, documents, and monitors.
• Auditory ability to effectively communicate with patients and colleagues, as well as to perceive important sounds such as alarms or patient instructions.
• Stamina and resilience to handle the physical and emotional demands of providing patient care, including long shifts and potentially stressful situations.
• Mobility to navigate clinical environments, including moving between patient rooms, offices, and other areas of the facility.
• Compliance with infection control protocols and proper use of personal protective equipment to maintain a safe and healthy work environment.

• Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred.
