About The Position

This is a full-time, night shift position for a Registered Nurse in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Waxahachie, TX. The ICU is an 18-bed, high-acuity environment focused on delivering comprehensive critical care. The typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2. The role involves working collaboratively with a team of intensivists, hospitalists, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other specialists to provide coordinated, patient- and family-centered care. The unit fosters a collaborative team culture that supports professional growth and clinical excellence, offering exposure to diverse case mixes and evidence-based critical care practices in a close-knit, patient-centered environment with strong interdisciplinary partnerships.

Requirements

Graduated from an Accredited Program with a specialized field of study in nursing.
RN license.
BLS certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of starting.
1-2 years of critical care experience.
A deep understanding of nursing and patient care standards, as well as procedures.
Knowledge of nursing laws, rules, standards, and guidelines in your area.
Understanding of hospital procedures and rules.
Proficiency in medical terms, focusing on health, disease prevention, management, common medications, and their side effects.
Respect for medical and professional nursing ethics and patient privacy rights.
Exceptional communication skills, allowing for clear expression of thoughts both verbally and in writing.
Positive social skills to facilitate interactions with a diverse range of parties.
Excellent problem-solving capabilities, driving effective critical thinking.
Basic computer skills, encompassing areas such as Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email.

Responsibilities

Oversee patient care using a professional practice model.
Conduct patient assessments, recognizing health issues, and creating care plans.
Assess patient responses to care and adjust plans to achieve desired outcomes.
Build relationships, manage discomfort, and maintain professionalism in therapeutic connections with patients and families.
Educate patients, families, nurses, and community members on healthcare choices.

Recognize limitations and prioritize safety, effectiveness, and efficiency in patient care planning and delivery.
