About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) ICU will direct patient care using critical care skills to determine appropriate nursing diagnosis, planning and implementing interventions and evaluating outcomes for optimum patient outcome. This role involves managing and providing critical nursing care in the ICU, overseeing monitor tech and telemetry patients. The RN will plan and provide direct patient care using the nursing process and hospital policies, follow CMS guidelines to improve patient outcomes, and adhere to protocols for medication administration. They will also provide patient teaching, begin discharge planning upon admission, and communicate patient status changes to physicians and staff. Documentation of findings, concerns, actions, and outcomes is essential for continuity of care.

Requirements

Associate degree in nursing (two-year program) or equivalent formal training program.
Six months to one year of Med/Surg experience.
Licensed in the State of Kansas as a Registered Nurse in good standing.
BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC verification within 6 months of hiring.
Pass ICU Telemetry exam within 90 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s Degree (BSN).
Three to five years ICU experience.

Responsibilities

Manage and provide critical nursing care in ICU.
Oversee monitor tech and telemetry patients.
Plan and provide direct patient care using the nursing process.
Follow CMS guidelines to improve patient outcome.
Administer medications following established protocols and ensuring the 6 rights of medication administration.
Provide patient teaching according to the plan of care.
Begin discharge planning at the time of admission.
Communicate pertinent patient information to physicians, staff, and ancillary departments.
Document findings, concerns, actions, and outcomes related to patient's diagnosis.
Read cardiac rhythms and treat them according to ACLS standards.
Obtain and assess hemodynamic values and maintain care of invasive monitoring equipment.
Demonstrate knowledge of IV medications and drips used in the ICU.
Interpret cardiac rhythms of telemetry patients and notify relevant parties of arrhythmias.
Give direction to and relieve the monitor tech/unit clerk as needed.
Respond to in-house code blue emergencies and act as team leader following ACLS and PALS protocols.
Serve as preceptor, providing training and practical experience to newly hired RNs.
