About The Position

Advance Your Nursing Career in Critical Care At Deaconess Illinois Medical Center, our Step Down ICU team cares for patients who require close monitoring and advanced nursing care as they transition from intensive care to recovery. We are seeking compassionate and skilled Registered Nurses (RNs) who thrive in a fast-paced environment and are passionate about delivering exceptional patient care. As a member of our Progressive Care Unit (PCU), you'll care for complex patients, strengthen your critical care skills, and work alongside an experienced interdisciplinary team dedicated to achieving the best possible outcomes.

Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Illinois
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Professional Nursing
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or Red Cross BLS certification upon hire
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification or Red Cross Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification within 30 days of hire

Nice To Haves

  • One year of previous clinical nursing experience
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team
  • Physical stamina and emotional stability to excel in a fast-paced clinical environment

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialized nursing care for patients requiring a higher level of monitoring and intervention than a traditional medical-surgical unit.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans.
  • Monitor cardiac rhythms, vital signs, neurological status, and overall patient condition.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and therapies according to physician orders and clinical protocols.
  • Manage and monitor specialized equipment and advanced monitoring systems.
  • Recognize changes in patient condition and respond quickly to emergent situations.
  • Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, case managers, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate care.
  • Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, and recovery expectations.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation while promoting quality and patient safety initiatives.
  • Provide compassionate support to patients and families during critical stages of recovery.
