About The Position

UW Medical Center - Montlake has an outstanding opportunity for an ICU Nurse Residency/Transition to Practice. This program will be with Montlake’s four ICU Departments and will commence October 26, 2026. The program is designed for both new and experienced RNs to learn a new, challenging area of nursing at a state-of-the-art facility. The four hiring ICU Departments are: Surgical ICU (14 beds) for surgical cases and liver transplants; Medical ICU (24 beds) for medical ICU cases and Bone Marrow Transplant; Cardiothoracic ICU (24 beds) for cardiac and thoracic surgery patients, vascular, heart and lung transplant, MCS, VV, ECLS, and TAVR; and CCU ICU (21 beds) for acute heart failure, mechanical circulatory support, pre heart transplant patients and post-cardiac cath lab procedures.

Requirements

  • Active WA RN license, or valid Multistate RN license no later than October 10, 2026.
  • At least two years of registered nursing experience in an acute care environment.
  • If nursing resident, must have ICU Senior Practicum experience, ICU Clinicals, or have worked in an ICU Department in another health care provider role, i.e., PCT, MA, Health Unit Coordinator.
  • BLS and ACLS within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct recovery for ICU surgical cases and liver transplants.
  • Care for medical ICU cases and Bone Marrow Transplant patients.
  • Care for cardiac and thoracic surgery patients, vascular, heart and lung transplant, MCS, VV, ECLS, and TAVR.
  • Care for patients with acute heart failure, mechanical circulatory support, pre heart transplant patients and post-cardiac cath lab procedures.
