This position involves assessing the physical, psychological, and social dimensions of patients within a healthcare unit and, as necessary, in housing units. The Registered Nurse will apply knowledge of available resources in obtaining health histories and in the assessment process, providing written assessments upon admission, during confinement, and upon discharge. Key responsibilities include summarizing assessment data, making documented triage decisions, planning individual treatment programs utilizing available protocols, and implementing mental health plans through medication administration and diagnostic tests. The role also requires implementing nutrition and therapeutic diet plans, documenting nursing encounters using the SOAP format, and communicating information effectively to various personnel while respecting patient dignity and confidentiality. Professional expectations include assessing personal learning needs, supporting the nursing department's philosophy and goals, accepting assignments, and performing duties within the scope of the state practice act and facility policies. The role promotes quality assurance, develops professional relationships, provides leadership to nursing staff, supervises patient care, identifies and addresses problems, and makes recommendations for improvements. The nurse is expected to approach change positively, motivate staff, and accept constructive criticism.
