This is an entry-level position for Registered Nurses (RN) who are new graduates or have minimal RN experience. The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services supports individuals by promoting recovery, self-determination, and wellness in all aspects of life. DBHDS operates 12 facilities, including 8 behavioral health facilities for adults, a training center, a psychiatric facility for children and adolescents, a medical center, and a center for behavioral rehabilitation. State facilities provide highly structured, intensive services for individuals with mental illness, intellectual disability, or who need substance use disorder services. DBHDS is committed to a life of possibilities for all Virginians. This position will work at Southern Virginia Mental Health Institute, a 72-bed Joint Commission accredited State Mental Health Facility, located in Danville, VA. Registered Nurses are responsible for assessing patients' physical and mental condition, collaborating with patients and other team members to identify needs, and designing individualized, person-centered plans of care to increase psychosocial and recovery skills for individuals with mental illnesses and dual disorders. They are also responsible for safely implementing the use of Seclusion/Restraints, including knowledge of physical/emotional risk factors of the patients served at the facility. Positions are available for our Night shift (7:00 pm - 7:30 am) RN float pool and will work 12-hour shifts in a non-rotating Pitman schedule. This position may be required to work overtime and will work weekends on a rotating basis. This position requires completion of a consecutive 4-week New Employee Orientation for on-the-job training.
