About The Position

The Medical University Hospital Authority (MUHA) is seeking a Registered Nurse I (New Graduate) for the MSICU (Medical Surgical ICU). This 18-bed unit cares for adult patients with a wide range of medical and surgical diagnoses, including multi-system organ failure, hematology/oncology, pulmonary hypertension, sepsis, respiratory failure, and post-lung transplants. The unit also specializes in digestive diseases, caring for patients with renal, endocrine, liver disease, GI surgery and hemorrhage, pancreatitis, and islet cell transplants. Additionally, the MSICU provides care for obstetric patients requiring ICU level care. Staff are trained in advanced hemodynamic monitoring, continuous renal replacement therapy, ECMO, pulmonary artery catheters, and aggressive ventilator therapy. The MSICU has earned the Silver Beacon Award. As a Registered Nurse I, you will assist at the advanced beginner level in providing individualized, goal-directed nursing care to patients and families, utilizing the nursing process and collaborating with the healthcare team to achieve desired outcomes.

Requirements

  • Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
  • Ability to perform job functions while standing (Continuous).
  • Ability to perform job functions while sitting (Continuous).
  • Ability to perform job functions while walking (Continuous).
  • Ability to work indoors (Continuous).
  • Ability to perform gross motor activities with frequent fine motor movements (Continuous).

  • Ability to maintain tactile sensory functions (Continuous).
  • Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required (Continuous).

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred.
  • RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date.
