About The Position

This role is for a Registered Nurse (RN) in Hospital Internal Medicine (General Care) at Domitilla (DO4D). The unit provides care for patients on the Hospital Internal Medicine (HIM) and Nephrology services, including an area for hospice or palliative care. The unit has 39 beds and focuses on managing medical patients with various acute or chronic health problems, often with multiple comorbidities. There is a strong emphasis on discharge planning, with daily multidisciplinary patient care rounds, and complex discharge planning is frequently required. The RN is accountable for coordinating nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education, and transitions of care. They support professional nursing practice across settings and the continuum of care. The RN functions within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, adhering to the ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice. Responsibilities include planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care. The RN provides leadership through preceptor roles, informal/formal leadership, and quality improvement efforts. They delegate patient care based on skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and resource availability. Excellent communication, mentoring, and teaching skills are essential, and participation in committees or projects may be required. Some employees may be required to drive their personal vehicle for role responsibilities. This role is eligible for TN sponsorship, requiring state licensure and VisaScreen or equivalent certification.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a nursing program, as recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA).
  • One year of RN experience required.
  • All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a RN start date of April 1, 2020 and after must provide documented evidence of program completion of the baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program within five years from the last day of the month of the RN start date.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Computer skills required.
  • Current RN license by applicable state requirements.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) must be valid for 90 days post start date; acceptable certifications include: American Heart Association (AHA)/ Heartcode® BLS, Military Training Network, Red Cross (CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers).
  • Additional state licensure(s) and/or specialty certification/training as required by the work area.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership, effective communicator, and excellent critical thinking skills.
