About The Position

We have a new opening for a Registered Nurse - Hematology/Oncology at Nellis AFB in North Las Vegas, NV. This role involves managing patient care requirements within the unit, coordinating with ancillary departments, and ensuring the continuum of care. The nurse will be accountable for making patient care assignments based on the scope of practice and skill level of assigned personnel. The position requires performing a full range of nursing procedures, including patient counseling and education, telephone consultations, chart reviews, intravenous fluid administration, oxygen administration, vital signs monitoring and recording, and specimen collection. The nurse will also participate in the orientation and training of new personnel and in peer reviews. The role involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for adult and geriatric patients, synthesizing data from various sources, and making appropriate clinical judgments. Coordination of patient care across the continuum is essential to achieve optimal outcomes in relation to clinical care, quality, and cost-effectiveness. Ensuring compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines is critical. The assessment of patients includes physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, language barriers, age-specific needs, and discharge planning. The nurse must be able to assess, evaluate, and triage patients, recognize adverse signs and symptoms, and react quickly in emergencies. Collaboration with inter-professional colleagues, including physicians, pharmacy, radiology, and lab, is required for planning, implementing, and evaluating care. Collecting and assessing significant patient history information and performing necessary patient teaching are key responsibilities. Excellent oral and written communication skills are necessary for patient/family education, communicating treatment plans, and accurate documentation. The role involves performing telephone follow-up and setting up, operating, and monitoring specialized medical equipment. Ensuring medication and supply replenishment and proper storage within regulatory guidelines is also required. The nurse must be able to respond to medical emergencies, initiate CPR, and assist with ACLS measures. Clinical oversight of paraprofessionals and ensuring proper documentation and coding of procedures are part of the role. Completing orientation, competency verification, and educational programs are required. Serving on committees and participating in decision-making for process improvement, customer service initiatives, quality projects, and medical readiness activities are also expected. Ensuring a safe work environment and assisting with nursing care in other clinics as directed are additional duties.

Requirements

Possess a Bachelors degree in Nursing from a college or university accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
Must have been employed in an Infusion Center/Clinic with at least 12 months experience within the past 24 months.
Current, full, active and unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse from any state.
Possess a current AHA OR ARC BLS and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Advanced Life Support (ALS) are required.
Oncology Nursing Society (ONS)/Oncology Nursing Corporation (ONCC) Chemotherapy Biotherapy certification is required at hire or must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
Must maintain currency of certifications at NO cost to the government.
Must possess ability to pass a Government background check/security clearance.

Responsibilities

Coordinates patient care through a continuum and facilitates the achievement of optimal outcomes in relation to clinical care, quality and cost effectiveness.
Ensures compliance with standards of care, practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the medical treatment facility.
Provides care within ethical and legal boundaries.
Assesses patients, including the ability to assess/evaluate/triage patients.
Recognizes adverse signs and symptoms and quickly reacts in emergency situations.
Collaborates with other inter-professional colleagues, including physicians, pharmacy, radiology, and lab to plan, implement and evaluate care.
Collects and assesses significant patient history information and performs all necessary patient teaching.
Prescribes and communicates treatment plans in accordance with established clinic protocols.
Effectively communicates and collaborates with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family, and to meet organizational mission and goals.
Performs telephone follow-up.
Skilled in setting up, operating, and monitoring specialized medical equipment such as IV infusion pumps, oxygen analyzers, suction, vital signs monitoring devices, and other clinic specific equipment.
Ensure medication/supplies are replenished and stored within regulatory guidelines.
Recognized adverse signs and symptoms and quickly responds to medical emergencies as needed.
Initiates CPR if required and assists with providing ACLS measures when needed.
Provides clinical oversite of all paraprofessionals involved in the provision of therapeutic patient care.
Ensures for proper documentation and coding of procedures and services.
Completes orientation, competency verification, and educational programs in accordance with facility and unit specified guidelines.
Serves and participates in committees, functions, and other meetings as directed.
Provides relevant and timely information to these groups.
Assists with decision-making for process improvement initiatives.
Participates in customer service initiatives, quality projects, and medical readiness activities, designed to enhance health services.
Ensures a safe work environment for patients and employees in accordance with regulatory, infection control, national and local standards and policies.
Assists providing nursing care in other clinics at the discretion of the clinic Medical Director and flight leadership.
