About The Position

This position is responsible for providing professional nursing care to patients using the nursing process of assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation, and re-evaluation through a team approach. The Registered Nurse will be a contributing member of the health care team, communicating patient needs to all disciplines involved in patient care. Responsibilities include triaging patients, refilling medications as approved by physicians, and potentially following up on ER and inpatient reports. The role requires continuous self-professional development through seminars and maintaining CEUs.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing program.
  • Valid license to practice Nursing in the State of Indiana.
  • CPR at first available opportunity at WHS.
  • Must possess organization skills to prioritize and organize patient care needs in order to provide quality and efficient care.
  • Must have critical decision-making skills.
  • Must write legibly.
  • Must be able to complete simple addition.
  • Must be adaptable to a continuous changing patient care and staffing environment.
  • Must be able to deal with the demands and stresses that are encountered when dealing with patients, significant others, physicians and other health care team members.
  • Must maintain professional nursing standards in accordance with the Indiana State Board of Nursing Regulations, and the Standards of Care established within the Department of nursing Services.
  • Deliver patient care through the Nursing Process of Assessment, deriving a Nursing Diagnosis, Planning, Implementation and Evaluation.
  • Must have some computer skills.
  • Must be able to wash hands frequently and wear gloves without causing skin irritation.
  • Must use proper body mechanics when repositioning or ambulating the geriatric, adult, adolescent, pediatric, or infant patients who are unable to reposition or ambulate themselves.

  • Previous experience in medical office preferred but training will be provided.

Responsibilities

  • Triage patients when needed.
  • Refill medications as approved by physicians.
  • Follow up on ER & inpatient reports.
  • Provide professional nursing care for patients by using the nursing process of assessment, derivation of the nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation and re-evaluation of care by using a team approach.
  • Be a contributing member to the health care team and communicate the needs of the patient to all disciplines involved in the patient's care.
  • Collect data on assigned patients pertaining to their initial and continuing needs and reports pertinent findings to the physician.
  • Collect lab data in accordance with CLIA guidelines.
  • Administer medications according to the department of nursing services policies and procedures.
  • Report and document patient responses and pertinent observations.
  • Assume responsibility for learning and professional growth.
  • Participate in the orientation and instruction of personnel as assigned.
  • Promote and maintain effective working relationships within the assigned nursing units and other departments.
  • Assist co-workers as necessary.
  • Participate in unit meetings and in-services as assigned.
  • Serve as a patient advocate.
  • Support and practice within WHS policies and procedures.
  • Practice universal precautions.
  • Maintain confidentiality and patient's rights to privacy.
  • Perform CPR when necessary.
  • Treat patients and co-workers with compassion, dignity and respect.
  • Handle and dispose of Hazardous Chemicals and infectious wastes properly.
  • Demonstrate the ability to obtain and interpret information relevant to the patients needs in a manner that is consistent with knowledge of patient growth and development, and applies such knowledge and understanding so as to provide the range of treatment that is most appropriate for the patient.
  • Assure customer service meets or exceeds expectations of customers.
  • Treat all customers with courtesy and respect.
  • Knowledge of medications often prescribed to patients.
