About The Position

Willamette Valley Cancer Institute and Research Center is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to join the team at their main clinical location. This clinical RN plays a vital role in supporting patient care within the outpatient oncology setting. Responsibilities include assessing patient needs in person, collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement care plans, administering treatments, and providing education and support to patients and their families. The RN will document all aspects of care in the electronic medical record and ensure timely coordination of services. The ideal candidate will be skilled in identifying patients with complex or high-risk conditions and facilitating appropriate interventions within the clinic.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education, BSN preferred.
  • RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Must maintain continuing education requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • 3-5 years nursing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Addresses patient calls, portal messages and emails in a timely manner.
  • Assesses patient needs in person, collaborates with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement care plans, administers treatments, and provides education and support to patients and their families.
  • Documents all aspects of care in the electronic medical record and ensures timely coordination of services.
  • Skilled in identifying patients with complex or high-risk conditions and facilitating appropriate interventions within the clinic.
  • Asks appropriate open-ended questions as well as utilizing computerized algorithms/pathways to assist in the assessment of patient's symptoms and side effect management and documents interventions.
  • Manages a wide range of symptoms.
  • Assesses urgency of patient symptoms/side effects and addresses them appropriately.
  • Aggressively manage symptoms to prevent unnecessary emergency department and hospital utilization.
  • If emergency care is needed, collaborate with physicians via electronic communication, face to face, or the telephone to discuss patient care needs that cannot be independently and appropriately addressed using standard orders or practice protocols.
  • Assess surgical sites for healing, infection, or other concerns and document findings accurately.
  • Provide clear post‑op education, discharge instructions, and follow‑up coordination.
  • Collaborates with providers if the patient can be seen in an outpatient clinic setting for their symptoms.
  • Documents all conversations with patients to maintain a comprehensive medical record.
  • Provides clear instructions and education to the patients via the telephone and other duties as assigned.
