About The Position

A4 is a 31-bed pre and post-op inpatient surgical unit dedicated to providing the highest quality of care. Our team is comprised of new graduate and experienced nurses, nursing leaders and healthcare professionals who thrive in a fast-paced, supportive environment. Our unit consists of patients recovering from general surgical to state-of-the-art orthopedic, bariatric, GI, Women’s Health and medical patients. We are proud to be an Advanced Total Joint and Advanced Spine center of excellence recognized by the Joint Commission reflecting our commitment to excellence. By combining our skills with innovative technology, we create a patient and family-centered care environment that promotes caring and healing. Demonstrates clinical competence through utilization of the nursing process and development of a synergistic nurse-patient relationship. Assesses and identifies patient problems/needs, establishes a plan of care, implements and evaluates care provided to patients.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a school of Nursing
  • Current unrestricted license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Connecticut
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) upon hire
  • Basic knowledge of Nursing principles and practices
  • Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions
  • Communicates effectively in order to provide technical or complex information as well as instruction
  • Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with departments, employees, physicians, managers and patients
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities, be flexible and a team player
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment
  • Commitment to customer service
  • Basic computer knowledge in order to enter/retrieve data
  • Requires high level of analytical ability in order to gather and interpret information from various sources
  • Able to take the appropriate action in response to changes, circumstances, problems and/or emergency situations
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred
  • One (1) year RN experience and/or successful completion of the Backus Hospital Nurse Residency Program
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred
