This specific role is for a Registered Nurse (RN) in the GI Endoscopy practice on Alfred 6, serving the adult population. The position involves direct patient care and education, with RNs functioning in either a Procedural role within the endoscopy suite or a Pre/Post/Recovery role. The Procedural RN works alongside the physician in the procedure room, performing delegated tasks and maneuvers. This requires strong technical skills and a deep understanding of anatomy and physiology, with a focus on collaboration with the physician and healthcare team. The Pre/Post/Recovery RN is responsible for focused history and patient assessments prior to procedures, providing patient education, reviewing medical history, and monitoring patients post-sedation until they meet discharge criteria. This environment is fast-paced and demands attention to detail, critical thinking, time management, multitasking, and autonomous functioning. All RNs are trained to interpret ECG rhythms and must obtain ACLS certification within their first 3-6 months. The RN is accountable for coordinating nursing care, including direct patient care, education, and transitions of care, supporting professional nursing practice across various settings. They operate within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, adhering to the ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice. The role involves leadership through preceptor roles, informal/formal leadership, and quality improvement efforts. RNs delegate patient care based on skill level, experience, acuity, fiscal accountability, and resource availability. Excellent communication, mentoring, and teaching skills are essential, with opportunities to participate in committees and projects. A subset of employees may be required to drive their personal vehicle for role responsibilities. This role is eligible for TN sponsorship, requiring state licensure and VisaScreen or equivalent certification.

Requirements

Graduate of a nursing program recognized by ACEN, CCNE, or NLN CNEA.
One year of RN experience required.
Current RN license by applicable state requirements.
BLS (Basic Life Support) must be valid for 90 days post start date; acceptable certifications include: American Heart Association (AHA)/Heartcode® BLS, Military Training Network, Red Cross (CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers).
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
Experience working in a team environment.
Computer skills required.
Ability to work flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends and on-call.

Responsibilities

Provides direct patient care and education for the adult population in the GI Endoscopy practice.
Functions in two areas: Procedural (endoscopy suite) and Intake/Recovery.
Procedural RN: Works in the procedure room alongside the MD, performing delegated tasks and maneuvers.
Procedural RN: Collaborates with the MD and healthcare team to provide optimal patient care.
Pre/Post RN: Completes focused history and patient assessment prior to endoscopy procedures.
Pre/Post RN: Provides patient education for endoscopic procedures.
Pre/Post RN: Reviews medical history, current medication list, and allergies to ensure patient suitability for endoscopy.
Recovery RN: Monitors patients post-sedation until discharge criteria are met.
Interprets ECG rhythms.
Coordinates nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education, and transitions of care.
Supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and the continuum of care.
Plans, implements, evaluates, and communicates all phases of nursing care for assigned patients.
Delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and resource availability.
May participate on committees or projects.
May be required to drive their personal vehicle as part of their role responsibilities.
