About The Position

This Registered Nurse position in General Surgery offers part-time, flexible hours and the opportunity for a sign-on bonus. The role involves providing comprehensive nursing care to assigned patients under the supervision of the Nurse Manager and Director. The RN will utilize critical thinking and communication skills to develop patient care plans, considering physiological, psychosocial, and cultural needs. This position also includes supervising non-professional personnel to ensure optimal patient care and requires competence in addressing age-related patient needs. The RN will work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver services in accordance with Riverside Health System's standards and goals.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) or licensed in a compact state Upon Hire
  • CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) Upon Hire
  • Weekend Shifts
  • Irregular Shifts
  • High School Diploma or GED, HS Diploma/GED only required if Nursing Diploma Graduate (Required)
  • 2 years nursing experience (for sign-on bonus eligibility)

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient clinical and psychosocial needs according to standards of practice for the specialty or patient population.
  • Demonstrate nursing unit specific competencies and equipment training.
  • Partner with patients and families to develop, implement, and evaluate care plans, treatments, and procedures.
  • Incorporate evidence-based standards of practice and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team in care coordination.
  • Facilitate safe patient transitions to the next level of care.
  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency to facilitate patient throughput and ensure consistent, competent, and ethical care.
  • Focus on quality patient outcomes when addressing service needs.
  • Demonstrate understanding of diverse patient care populations and modify education methods accordingly.
  • Coordinate and deliver individualized patient education and discharge-specific education to family/caregivers, evaluating for comprehension and documenting.
  • Delegate and prioritize tasks appropriately to facilitate quality patient care and service excellence.
  • Recognize and respond to emergency situations.
  • Evaluate resources and support needed and use systems to ensure needs are met.
