The Registered Nurse General Duty Nurse will perform surgical preparation/scrub/circulating/post anesthesia roles for obstetrical procedures in collaboration with the patient, primary care physician/midwife, and other healthcare providers. This role involves preparing patients for surgery, administering medication, completing nursing admission forms, and transporting patients to the OR. The nurse will coordinate the in-hospital experience, create a therapeutic perinatal environment through patient/family teaching and counseling (focusing on surgical experience, post-operative care, newborn care, health promotion, and perinatal loss), and utilize the nursing process and professional standards to provide care. Additionally, the role includes providing emergency care for surgical patients/fetuses/newborns in crisis, obstetrical care, fetal health surveillance during labor and delivery, evaluating care outcomes, modifying care plans, and acting as a patient advocate. The nurse will also precept new orientees or students and provide care to patients and their families.
