About The Position

Spectrum Healthcare Resources has an excellent opportunity for a civilian Registered Nurse - Gastroenterology at Portsmouth Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth, Virginia. This position offers employee status and access to a comprehensive benefits package. The role involves caring for an active duty, retiree, and their families, who are fully insured. The Registered Nurse will coordinate patient care through a continuum, ensuring optimal outcomes in relation to care, quality, and cost-effectiveness. They will also ensure compliance with standards of care and practice, providing care within ethical and legal boundaries. The role requires assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for adult and geriatric patients, recognizing adverse signs and symptoms, and reacting quickly in emergency situations. Additionally, the nurse will provide pre-procedural counseling and education for patients planning to undergo GI procedures.

Requirements

  • Must be a US citizen, or lawful permanent resident, or alien authorized to work in the US
  • Shall have and maintain a current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in any one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
  • Shall hold and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Advanced Life Support (ALS). Certifications must be through American Heart Association or American Red Cross guidelines.
  • Shall have completed a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited college or university; National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a clinical nurse in the medical/surgical, critical care inpatient, or emergency department or Gastroenterology settings and have been employed in one of those work settings within the past 36 months.
  • Must have knowledge of professional care theories, principles, practices, disease process and procedures to perform nursing assignments of moderate difficulty and experience to acutely ill adults and geriatric patients as appropriate.

  • Ability to recognize adverse signs and symptoms and react quickly in emergency situations.
  • Provide pre-procedural counseling and education for patients planning to undergo GI procedures.
