About The Position

This is a seasonal Registered Nurse (RN) position in the Inpatient Float Pool at Mayo Clinic, specifically for the winter season. The role involves providing patient care across various acute care settings, including Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Units, Progressive Care Units (PCUs), and Flexible Care Areas. The position offers the opportunity to expand clinical expertise by caring for diverse patient populations. Float Pool nurses practice autonomously and flexibly, gaining experience across multiple specialties. Seasonal Float Pool RNs receive comprehensive orientation, including Mayo Clinic's Foundations of Critical Care Nursing (FCCN) program, which prepares them for Progressive Care practice through enhanced critical thinking and clinical decision-making. This role allows for potential return for future seasons or application for permanent positions after the seasonal assignment. The RN is accountable for coordinating nursing care, including direct patient care, education, and transitions of care, supporting professional nursing practice and meeting patient/family needs. They function within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, are responsible for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating nursing care, and may provide leadership through preceptor roles, informal/formal leadership, and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates patient care based on skill level, experience, acuity, fiscal accountability, and resource availability. Excellent communication, mentoring, and teaching skills are expected, with potential participation in committees or projects. A subset of employees may be required to drive their personal vehicle. This role is eligible for TN sponsorship.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a baccalaureate nursing program, as recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA). If graduated from a nursing program that was not accredited by ACEN, CCNE, or NLN CNEA, at least one year of RN experience in an applicable care setting or one year of LPN experience at Mayo Clinic is required.
  • All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a RN start date of April 1, 2020 and after must provide documented evidence of program completion of the baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program within five years from the last day of the month of the RN start date.
  • All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a RN start date prior to April 1, 2020 must provide documented evidence of program completion of the baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program as stipulated by the degree requirement program in place at time of hire.
  • A minimum of 12 months of RN experience in an acute care setting is required.
  • 1 year of Telemetry or ICU experience required.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Computer skills required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends and on-call.
  • Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting.
  • Demonstrated leadership, effective communicator, and excellent critical thinking skills.
  • Current RN license by applicable state requirements.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) must be valid for 90 days post start date from American Heart Association: “BLS Provider” or American Red Cross: “Basic Life Support” or “CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers.
  • Additional state licensure(s) and/or specialty certification/training as required by the work area.
  • BLS & ACLS required upon hire.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN or MSN preferred.
  • Prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred.

Responsibilities
