About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the OR Unit Coordinator, Manager, and Director of Perioperative Services, the OR Registered Nurse/Registered Nurse First Assistant (RN/RNFA) demonstrates proficiency in all aspects of perioperative nursing care, including patient assessment, care planning, implementation, coordination, and evaluation. The RN/RNFA functions in both the circulating nurse and first assistant roles and is responsible for providing safe, efficient, and evidence-based patient care throughout the perioperative continuum. This position serves as a hybrid role and will fulfill both Registered Nurse Circulator and Registered Nurse First Assistant responsibilities based upon procedural requirements, staffing availability, departmental operational needs, and competency validation. The RN/RNFA participates in the department call schedule and may be assigned: RN Circulator Call RN Circulator Back-up Call RN First Assistant (FA) Call Call assignments will be determined by the Director of Perioperative Services or designee based on current staffing levels, case schedules, service line requirements, and departmental needs.

Requirements

• BLS certification maintained
• CFA certification maintained
• Current Registered Nurse licensure in Kentucky or Compact State.
• Current BLS certification.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program
• Graduate of an accredited RNFA program
• Demonstrated competency as both an OR Circulator and RN First Assistant

Nice To Haves

• ACLS and PALS preferred. (Required within first year)
• CRNFA certification preferred and/or maintained as required by departmental standards.
• Bachelor's degree (BSN) preferred.
• Minimum of six (6) months' recent experience as an RNFA preferred
• Minimum six (6) months recent perioperative nursing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Functions in both the circulating nurse and first assistant roles.
• Provides safe, efficient, and evidence-based patient care throughout the perioperative continuum.
• Fulfills Registered Nurse Circulator and Registered Nurse First Assistant responsibilities based upon procedural requirements, staffing availability, departmental operational needs, and competency validation.
• Participates in the department call schedule.
• May be assigned RN Circulator Call, RN Circulator Back-up Call, or RN First Assistant (FA) Call.
