About The Position
Responsible for assisting surgeons during intraoperative procedures. Privileges under the direct supervision of the surgeon include the following: Standards of Performance: Respect, Integrity, Compassion, Collaboration, Stewardship, Accountability, Quality
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
- Current Illinois Registered Nurse License
- Certification (CNOR) for Certified First Assist
- 2 years of OR experience
Responsibilities
- Assist surgeon with gowning, gloving, prepping and draping.
- Facilitate safe positioning of patient according to the surgeon’s preference, patient’s anatomical and physiological limits, and surgical procedure to be performed.
- Assist surgeon with passing instruments or suture and basic assisting.
- Provides exposure, assists in achieving homeostasis with surgeon’s supervision.
- Provides manipulation and dissection and / or removal of tissues, aids in implanting, securing, and/or removal of devises and drains.
- Performs layered closure of surgical sites utilizing appropriate techniques according to individual surgeon preference.
- Applies appropriate dressing material specific to procedure.
- Applies splints or casts specific to procedure and/ or injury.
- Assesses skin integrity and assists in transfer of patient post- operative.
