About The Position

This role is part of the Nurse Residency Program for newly graduated nurses with less than 12 months of practice experience, providing an extensive orientation program for all new nurses regardless of experience. The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for coordinating nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education, and transitions of care. They support professional nursing practice across various settings and the continuum of care to meet patient and family needs, functioning within the Mayo Nursing Care Model. This includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients, based on the ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice. The role also involves providing leadership through preceptor roles, informal leadership, and quality improvement efforts. Patient care is delegated according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and resource adequacy. The position requires excellent communication, mentoring, and teaching skills, with potential participation in committees or projects. This role is eligible for TN sponsorship, requiring state licensure and completion of VisaScreen or equivalent certification.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a registered nursing program.
  • Current MN RN License
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) for Health Care Providers required from one of the following programs: American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

Nice To Haves

  • All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a RN start date of April 1, 2020 and after must provide documented evidence of program completion of a baccalaureate degree in nursing program within five years from the last day of the month of the RN start date.
  • All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a RN start date prior to April 1, 2020 must provide documented evidence of program completion of a baccalaureate degree in nursing program as stipulated by the degree requirement program in place at time of hire.

  • Possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on committees or projects.
