Registered Nurse - Family Birth Center: Labor/Delivery - RN
About The Position

The Family Birth Center is located on Eisenberg 32, 33, 35, Desk 3C. It includes birthing/recovery suites, surgical delivery rooms, and a neonatal resuscitation room. Support persons and siblings may attend births if prepared. Nurses assist with caesarean births, postpartum tubal ligations, dilatation and curettage, and special procedures. The center cares for antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum patients and their newborns, utilizing a couplet care model. The nursing staff includes RNs and PCAs, supported by various resource persons and physicians from multiple departments. OB/GYN triage is located at Eisenberg Desk 3C, staffed with nurses and a health unit coordinator, serving as the initial point of contact for patients determining labor or experiencing complications. New graduate nurses should apply through the Nurse Residency Program posting.
Requirements
- Graduate of a nursing program recognized by ACEN, CCNE, or NLN CNEA.
- One year of professional RN experience required.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
- Experience working in a team environment.
- Computer skills required.
- Ability to work flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends and on-call.
- Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting.
- Demonstrated leadership, effective communicator, and excellent critical thinking skills.
- Current RN license by applicable state requirements.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) must be valid for 90 days post start date; acceptable certifications include: American Heart Association (AHA)/Heartcode® BLS, Military Training Network, Red Cross (CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers).
- Additional state licensure(s) and/or specialty certification/training as required by the work area.
Nice To Haves
- Prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred.
- All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a RN start date of April 1, 2020, and after must provide documented evidence of program completion of the baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program within five years from the last day of the month of the RN start date.
Responsibilities
- Coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education, and transitions of care.
- Support of professional nursing practice across practice settings and the continuum of care.
- Planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients.
- Providing leadership through preceptor roles, informal and formal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts.
- Delegating patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and availability of resources.
- Assisting in the perioperative care of patients undergoing caesarean birth, postpartum tubal ligations, dilatation and curettage for miscarriage, and special procedures.
- Assisting with patient and family needs at the OB/GYN triage.
