This specific role is for a Registered Nurse in the Operating Room (OR) at their Jacksonville, Florida location. The hospital features 34 operating rooms, including specialized suites for IMRI and endovascular procedures, utilizing modern equipment and advanced technologies. For those without prior OR experience, Mayo Clinic offers a Periop 101 program. The role involves circulating and coordinating the surgical team, providing perioperative nursing care, and potentially assisting with scrubbing. The OR RN acts as the patient's advocate and functions within the Mayo Nursing Care Model, adhering to the ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice. Responsibilities include direct patient care, patient/family education, transitions of care, supporting professional nursing practice, planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating nursing care. The RN also provides leadership through preceptor roles, informal/formal leadership, and quality improvement efforts, and delegates patient care based on skill, experience, acuity, fiscal accountability, and resources. Excellent communication, mentoring, and teaching skills are essential, with opportunities to participate in committees or projects. This role is eligible for TN sponsorship, requiring state licensure and VisaScreen or equivalent certification.

Requirements

  • All associate degree or diploma registered nurses hired into the Department of Nursing with a RN start date after April 1, 2020, must provide documented evidence of program completion of their baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program within 5 years from the last day of the month of their RN start date.
  • All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a RN start date prior to April 1, 2020 must provide documented evidence of program completion of a baccalaureate degree in nursing program as stipulated by the degree requirement program in place at time of hire.
  • Qualified applicants must live within a reasonable driving distance to campus to meet 45-minute on-call requirement
  • Graduate of a nursing program
  • One year of RN experience in an applicable care setting is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Computer skills required, prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends and on-call.
  • Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting.
  • Demonstrated leadership, effective communicator, and excellent critical thinking skills.
  • Current RN license by applicable state requirements.
  • Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.
  • Additional specialty certification/training as required by the work area.

Responsibilities
