About The Position

Scarborough Health Network Women and Children’s program is excited to offer a specialized orientation program to Registered Nurses (RNs), who are registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario, who are interested in pursuing a career in Paediatrics. This enhanced program is designed to equip nurses with the essential skills and knowledge needed to excel in inpatient, day surgery, ambulatory paediatric care. Reporting to the Patient Care Manager of Women and Children’s, you will be responsible for providing excellent care to diverse patient populations within our multi-service environment. Our Women and Children’s Program is a patient and family focused care model and you will provide high quality nursing care to patients and their families. The nurse role models clinical excellence and the core competencies of the practice standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), Canadian Nurses’ Association (CNA) Paediatric Certification, as well as the policies and procedures of Scarborough Health Network (SHN). The nurse works collaboratively as a member of the health care team. All nurses make a commitment to lifelong learning. The structure of the program includes a combination of clinical rotations, didactic sessions, simulations training, and mentorship, with a focus on Paediatric inpatient care, Paediatric surgical experience, and paediatric ambulatory clinic care.

Requirements

  • Current certification with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse in good standing.
  • Current BCLS through Heart and Stroke Foundation.
  • Current Paediatric Advance Life Support Certificate (PALS) or willing to complete within 6 months.
  • Recent Paediatric Nursing experience or recent related clinical placement.
  • A breastfeeding certificate is required or a commitment to complete within 3 months of hire.
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position.

  • Evidence of sound organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to work well in stressful situations.
