About The Position

Come work as an Registered Nurse with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) in Endoscopy at Lions Gate Hospital! Within the context of a patient and family-centred framework and continuum based care model and in accordance with the established standards of professional practice and the vision and values of the organization, provides nursing services within designated endoscopy clinics to ambulatory patients requiring diagnostic endoscopic procedures and critically ill patients requiring therapeutic endoscopic procedures by working independently and as a member of an integrated care team. Assists the physician during the procedure and performs direct nursing care as appropriate to ensure the comfort and safety of patients undergoing procedures. Enhances quality of life from the perspective of the patient/family by consulting, conferring and collaborating with other health care givers including other endoscopy clinic team members. Demonstrates expertise and leadership in nursing practice by maintaining and advancing clinical competence. Participates on designated hospital committees/teams and approved research projects, as assigned. Requirements

  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Completion of recognized post-basic education in gastroenterology/GI endoscopy nursing, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Broad knowledge of nursing theory and practice within a patient/family centred model of care.
  • Broad knowledge of BCCNM standards for nursing practice.
  • Broad knowledge of Gastrointestinal (GI) anatomy and physiology.
  • General knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice, Harm Reduction approach and Strengths-based care.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safe care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.
  • Broad knowledge of pharmacology, and patient physiological reactions, related to conscious sedation.
  • Broad knowledge of nursing problems commonly encountered in an endoscopy environment.
  • Demonstrated ability in the initiation and management of IV therapy and administration of IV medications.
  • Demonstrated ability to respond immediately and appropriately to sudden emergencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess patient responses during procedure and to respond appropriately.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and effectively deal with patients and their families, co-workers, physicians, and other health care workers.
  • Demonstrated skill in procedural sedation and analgesia.
  • Demonstrated skill in CPR techniques.
  • Demonstrated skill in the use of and set up of endoscopy equipment.
  • Ability to operate related equipment including applicable software applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize workload in a fast paced, high volume procedure environment.
  • Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
