Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing and eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement provision -OR- Possess of a bachelor’s degree in nursing and at least one full year of professional nursing experience.
  • Current, valid, unrestricted nursing license in a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States.
  • A minimum of 24 months experience in an Emergency Room environment during the last 36 months.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as approved by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Evidence of current immunizations.

Responsibilities

  • Obtaining patient history, assessing patients, and planning appropriate nursing care.
  • Documenting the plan of care and interventions in the patient's medical record, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Verifying physician's orders, as well as the execution and documentation of prescribed orders.
  • Reassessing patient conditions and adjusting care plans based on identified nursing problems.
  • Participating in discharge planning.
  • Initiating life-saving measures in the absence of physicians.
  • Assessing and documenting patient responses to administered medications.
  • Interpreting cardiac rhythms, and responding appropriately to emergencies and therapeutic procedures.
  • Operating defibrillators, EKG machines, cardiac monitors, and other emergency technical equipment.
  • Caring for patients with specialized equipment such as Swan-Ganz catheters, central venous catheters, arterial lines, and mechanical ventilators.
  • Conducting regular assessments of intake and output.
  • Reviewing all laboratory data and electronic medical records.
  • Titrating medications.
  • Performing urinary catheter care, central line and ventilator care, skin assessments.
  • Initiating measures to prevent Hospital Acquired Pressure Ulcers (HAPU).
