Requirements

  • Current state RN license
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited nursing school.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required within 30 days of hire.
  • ACLS within one year
  • PALS within 3 years
  • Actively pursuing CEN within 3 years
  • 6-month acute care nursing experience and/or equivalent emergency medicine experience (CST, LPN, or Paramedic)

  • Trauma Nurse Course preferred

Responsibilities

  • Function as an independent practitioner providing care to patients of all ages including neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics.
  • Self-motivational skills, exhibits self-direction.
  • Adheres to department policy in regard to customer satisfaction.
  • Provides primary nursing care to all patients assigned, functioning within a team, throughout the length of stay in the department.
  • Demonstrates accountability and professionalism
  • Notify family/S.O. of patient’s progress and include them in plan of care, whether admitted or discharged.
  • Assumes responsibility for maintaining professional expertise, knowledge of DEM protocols and continuing education, i.e. CPR recertification, CEN, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS and Trauma Nurse credentialing.
  • Maintains stroke education annually.
  • Completes annual ESI triage modules.
  • Maintains technical skills and expertise.
  • Participates in bedside change of shift report.
  • Assume responsibility for annual completion of required education, as well as any assigned mandatory educational requirements throughout the year.
  • Completes departmental competencies.
  • Attend programs related to trauma nursing as specified by Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation standards.
  • Maintain assessment, knowledge and intuition skills when treating all patients.
  • Maintain departmental awareness, assessment and communication skills when performing Navigator role to ensure the safety and care of patients throughout the department and waiting areas.
  • Practice Universal precautions.
  • Promote continuous quality improvement.
