The Registered Nurse - Emergency Room - Nights position requires critical knowledge, skills, and judgment to care for patients requiring complex assessment and therapies, high intensity interventions, and high-level continuous nursing vigilance. The nurse will utilize information and assessment data to anticipate and respond with confidence and adapt to rapidly changing patient conditions. This role involves identifying and prioritizing information to take immediate and decisive evidence-based, patient-focused action. The nurse will monitor and adjust specialized equipment, interpret and record electronic displays, and respond to life-saving situations based on nursing standards and protocol. Responsibilities include observing, monitoring, and assessing patients’ condition, recognizing and interpreting serious situations, and taking appropriate action. The nurse will assess patient needs, develop and revise individualized plans of care, and evaluate patient progress. This role also emphasizes respecting diversity, functioning as a patient and family advocate, and demonstrating advanced knowledge and skills for age-appropriate care. The nurse may serve as a preceptor, charge nurse, unit educator, and/or nurse clinician. Communication and collaboration with the medical staff and interdisciplinary team are essential for effective care planning and management. The nurse will serve as a role model, support hospital and nursing department goals, and demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles. Coordination of care and delegation to team members are key functions. Documentation of patient care must be thorough and meet all regulatory standards. Competency in nursing skills and equipment use is required, along with prioritizing patient care based on Evidence-Based Practice Standards of Care. Effective problem identification and resolution, delegation, and communication of patient information are expected. The nurse will demonstrate caring practices, awareness of legal issues and patients’ rights, and collaborate with the education department to support new team members and students. Maintaining attendance and compliance with hospital policies is also required. Additionally, the professional nurse contributes to knowledge sharing, participates in committees for practice and performance improvement, and engages in peer review, mentoring, and coaching. Efficient use of supplies, maintaining a clean work area, attending staff development and meetings, and partnering with leadership for professional development are also part of the role. The nurse assumes responsibility for their own professional development and continuing education.
