Requirements

Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited college of nursing required OR obtained within 5 years from date of hire for nurses with an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
NIH Stroke Scale training required by the end of orientation.
Successful completion of annual mandatory education requirements.
Current valid Nebraska Registered Nurse (RN) License, valid compact multistate license to work in Nebraska, or a temporary permit while awaiting licensure.
Current American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum (TNCC) required within two years.
Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) required within two years.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
Strong interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate and interact with patients, family members, hospital personnel, and co-workers.
Ability to multi-task and prioritize work assignments.
Ability to learn, retain, and utilize computer skills that are required for department and hospital information system.

Nice To Haves

2 years of nursing experience in an Emergency Department (ED) or Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Methodist Women's Hospital.
Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire.
Certification(s) in area of specialty from National Certification Corporation (NCC) within 1 year of eligibility.
Certified Critical Care Nurse (CCRN) and Certified Emergency Nursing (CEN).

Responsibilities

Provide appropriate care specific to the age of the customer/patient, ensuring understanding and comfort level of treatment as outlined in the Population Specific Criteria.
Perform initial and ongoing assessments to determine assigned patient's nursing care needs, including data from the patient/significant other(s) and prioritizing data collection.
Develop, review, revise, and individualize the plan of care to address patient's nursing care needs for optimum patient care outcomes, collaborating with providers and other clinical disciplines.
Implement interventions consistent with the established plan of care in a safe and appropriate manner, following nursing protocols and standards of care.
Evaluate patient care to determine response to care/interventions for optimal patient outcome, monitoring outcomes and documenting patient response.
Perform technical skills competently and independently to assure patient safety, learning new skills and equipment within the unit's specifications and timeframe.
Maintain professional behavior in attitude, demeanor, and interactions to achieve the organization's mission, communicating effectively to solve problems.
Initiate action to correct, prevent, and/or minimize risks to the patient, family, or hospital employees, completing appropriate report forms for any risk.
Review, delegate, and evaluate plans for appropriate utilization of staff at all levels of practice in accordance with the state's Nurse Practice Act and Professional Standards of Practice.
Be fiscally accountable and act professionally responsible for human and other resources, charging accurately for supplies and equipment and completing meaningful use requirements.
