About The Position

This position is for experienced Registered Nurses only. The Emergency Department is a primary tertiary referral facility and a recognized Level 1 Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center, Comprehensive Stroke Center and VAD Center. The ED staff see a diverse population of approximately 75,000 patients per year, interacting with nearly every specialty in the medical center for conditions ranging from minor illnesses to life-threatening diseases and injuries. The ED features universal acute care rooms, specialized pods for Behavioral Health, Pediatrics, and Observation, and adult and pediatric resuscitation suites. A garage entrance supports decontamination processes for hazardous material exposure, and 4 Intake Rooms are available for initial assessment. The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for coordinating nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education, and transitions of care, supporting professional nursing practice across settings and the continuum of care. The RN functions within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care. Practice is based on the ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice. The RN provides leadership through preceptor roles, informal and formal leadership, and quality improvement efforts. Delegation of patient care is based on skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and resource availability. The RN possesses excellent communication skills, is skillful in mentoring and teaching, and may participate in committees or projects. A subset of employees may be required to drive their personal vehicle as part of their role responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a nursing program, as recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA).
  • One year of RN experience required.
  • Current RN license by applicable state requirements.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) must be valid for 90 days post start date; acceptable certifications include: American Heart Association (AHA)/ Heartcode® BLS, Military Training Network, Red Cross (CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers).
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Computer skills required.
  • Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting.
  • Demonstrated leadership, effective communicator, and excellent critical thinking skills.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of 1-year of RN experience in an ED, critical care setting within the past 5 years strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of 2-years general care RN experience within the past 5 years is strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred.
  • Additional state licensure(s) and/or specialty certification/training as required by the work area.
