The IU Health Tipton's Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) provides high-quality, compassionate, and timely care to patients of all ages in a rural Critical Access Hospital setting. At IU Tipton Hospital, the Emergency Department is a 9-bed unit that serves approximately 8,000 patients annually, offering a dynamic and rewarding environment for nurses who thrive in fast-paced, community-centered care. This role requires strong clinical judgment, adaptability, and the ability to work independently in a resource-limited setting. The RN is responsible for triage, assessment, treatment, and coordination of care for patients presenting with a wide range of medical emergencies.

Requirements

  • Requires 1 year RN experience.
  • Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
  • Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
  • Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
  • Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.

Responsibilities

  • Perform rapid and accurate patient assessments and triage based on acuity.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and procedures in accordance with hospital policies and physician orders.
  • Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Monitor and document patient responses to interventions and adjust care as needed.
  • Provide patient and family education and emotional support.
  • Respond to emergency situations including trauma, cardiac arrest, stroke, and sepsis.
  • Operate and troubleshoot medical equipment (e.g., cardiac monitors, IV pumps, defibrillators).
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, drills, and continuing education.
