About The Position

As an Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN), you'll provide rapid assessment and compassionate, evidence-based care for patients experiencing a wide range of acute illnesses, injuries, and behavioral health emergencies. Working alongside physicians, advanced practice providers, EMS, and a collaborative emergency care team, you'll thrive in a fast-paced environment where critical thinking, teamwork, and adaptability are essential to delivering exceptional patient outcomes. As part of our commitment to the future of emergency care, Glens Falls Hospital is actively expanding and renovating the Sheridan Emergency Department, creating a modernized space with enhanced private treatment areas, improved patient flow, and additional capacity to better support both our patients and care teams. Construction is underway while the Emergency Department remains fully operational, with project completion anticipated in early 2027. As an RN, you hold primary accountability for organizing, managing, and delivering comprehensive nursing care to your assigned group of patients within the scope of the New York State Nurse Practice Act.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Registered Professional Nursing Program.
• Associate degree hires must complete their BSN within 5 years (RNs with 20+ years of experience can substitute an advanced certification for the BSN requirement).
• Active, unrestricted New York State (NYS) RN License.
• Active Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (or obtained at time of hire)
• Specialized training in hospital-approved verbal crisis intervention techniques. (Required upon hire/orientation for Behavioral Health, Emergency Department, and Crisis Services units).
• ACLS Certification : Required before the completion of clinical orientation if assigned to: Critical Care, Emergency Department, PACU, Snuggery, Cardiovascular Lab, Interventional Radiology, GI Center, or Urgent Care.
• PALS Certification : Required before the completion of clinical orientation if assigned to: Emergency Department or PACU.
• Stroke Certification Education : Required upon hire and annually if assigned to: Emergency Department, Critical Care, or Tower 6 Telemetry/Neuroscience Unit.
• Excellent clinical judgment, rapid problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to remain calm and effective during medical emergencies
• Ability to recognize patient care problems and to react appropriately in patient care emergencies
• Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing with other nursing personnel, patients, and physicians
• Ability to complete basic mathematical calculations
• Strong working knowledge of standard healthcare reporting and quality measures

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality, patient-centered nursing care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of individualized care plans.
• Coordinate care with patients, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members to promote positive clinical outcomes and seamless transitions of care.
• Monitor patient conditions, implement appropriate interventions, and adjust care plans based on changing needs and treatment goals.
• Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, self-care, and discharge instructions.
• Utilize electronic health record systems to document care accurately and maintain compliance with organizational standards.
• Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, communicate effectively with team members, and ensure safe patient handoffs.
• Delegate and supervise nursing support staff appropriately while maintaining accountability for patient care delivery.
• Support a culture of safety, teamwork, quality improvement, and professional excellence through active participation in unit and organizational initiatives.
