About The Position

This is a full-time Registered Nurse position in a 30-bed Emergency Care Unit. The unit is fast-paced and high acuity, handling approximately 155 visits per day and over 55,000 annual visits. The role includes ACLS, PALS, and EKG training. An orientation program facilitated by a Clinical Educator is provided, focusing on Emergency Nursing, especially for novice nurses. The Emergency Nursing Association (ENA) orientation curriculum is also offered online. The position is full-time, working 72 hours biweekly, with a 12-hour Day/Evening rotation. Every third weekend is required, and the nurse is eligible for shift and weekend differentials. The Registered Nurse is responsible and accountable for implementing, directing, and coordinating patient care through the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This involves recognizing and treating physical and psychosocial changes unique to the age/population group served on the specific unit.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required
  • Evidence of participation in educational programs to update and maintain current knowledge and clinical skills.
  • Experience applying customer service behaviors and communication skills required.
  • Eligible for or currently licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in Pennsylvania.
  • CPR certification required.
  • ACLS required for Emergency Department or achieved within one year of start date.
  • PALS required for Emergency within one year from start date.
  • Proficiency in cardiac monitor interpretation required for Emergency Department.
  • At least one year of RN experience in ED or Critical Care required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred.
  • Previous nursing experience in specialty area preferred.

  • Analyzes assessment data, identifies priority problems and documents on Plan of Care in PCS for patients and families and significant others.
  • Uses effective problem-solving skills to plan patient care.
  • Identifies critical factors evidencing changes in patient condition and responds appropriately.
  • Completes and documents discharge assessment against plan of care goals.
  • Initiates and maintains Intravenous Therapy according to IV standards.
  • Responds appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Utilizes proper body mechanics to prevent injury to self and others. Safely positions, transfers and transports patients.
  • Functions as a virtual nurse as assigned which includes, but is not limited to, admissions, discharges, education, documentation through a virtual platform and working collaboratively with the bedside nursing staff.
  • Completes accurate initial triage to ESI and department standards.
  • Performs thorough and accurate chief complaint specific assessments on all age groups.
  • Assesses and identifies patients for indications of physical, sexual, or psychological abuse and initiates appropriate follow-up.
  • Implements advanced emergency skills to ED patients.
  • Collaboratively coordinates with other departments and disciplines in order to meet patient’s needs.
  • Achieves credentialing in conscious sedation annually and demonstrates appropriate clinical performance as evidenced by successful observation and chart review.
  • Attends annual skills day for all other unit specific competencies and reviews.
  • Early identification and expedient processing of AMI patients to cath lab to meet benchmark door to balloon times.
  • Demonstrates appropriate technique of accessing, maintaining, and de-accessing indwelling ports.
  • Accurately completes and transmits 12 lead EKG’s.
  • Able to demonstrate proper set up and verbalize proper nursing care during and after insertion of chest tube.
  • Demonstrates proficient phlebotomy skills on all age groups and follows procedures for patient identification and specimen labeling.
  • Demonstrates proper use of Lifepak in all functions.
  • Properly identifies patients by chief complaint and initiates department protocols in collaboration with ED Physician.
  • Demonstrates proper application of restraints in the ED setting and completes required documentation timely and accurately.
  • Documentation thorough and complete as evidenced by random chart audits.
