About The Position

Under the direction of, and in collaboration with unit management, performs responsibilities exercising initiative, judgment and independent decision-making within the scope of the State Nurse Practice Act, hospital policy and other governing organizations. Utilizes the nursing process (assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation) in a systematic approach to the direct and indirect care of patients and their families.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Minnesota
At least 1 year of experience working in an Emergency Department is required.
Successful completion of a criminal background check as required by the State of Minnesota
Basic Life Support (BLS)
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
All newly hired RNs will receive in‑house trauma training within the first year of employment.

Responsibilities

Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Medical, Surgical (inpatient/outpatient), Emergency, Senior Care, Nursery, Chemotherapy and Ambulance Transport as needed/delegated.
Maintains certifications in all areas within scope of practice
Supervision of LPNs, Nursing Assistants and Health Unit Coordinators as needed.
Demonstrates effective interviewing and assessment skills and integrates new or current techniques to obtain physical/psycho-social information from the patient/family to plan, implement, and evaluate patient care through the nursing process.
Initiates and maintains patient care plan to reflect current patient needs utilizing computerized documentation
Performs with minimal supervision, exercises good judgment to reduce errors.
Demonstrates willingness to work extra shifts if needed.
Demonstrates a willingness to train new staff.
Attends annual skills fair.
Uses personal protective equipment that is appropriate for the given task.
Reports accidents or incidents and safety hazards promptly.
Cleans equipment, spills, etc. as necessary.
Identifies needs, instructs others, and actively supports the role of patient advocate/liaison by communication and documentation of patient information to the proper resources/agencies.
Proper computerized documentation will be maintained at all times. This includes, but not limited to admission, discharge, medication administration, teaching, activities of daily living and accurate intake/output.
Identifies needs and concerns involving safety/risk management and quality improvement issues, participates in the research, action, and evaluation of proposed resolutions/interventions.
