About The Position

The Registered Nurse - Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) position is a PRN role within the Behavioral Health department at UAB St. Vincent's East. This role involves providing direct patient care to behavioral health patients undergoing ECT. Responsibilities include performing bio-psychosocial assessments, developing and implementing nursing care plans, participating in treatment team conferences, and monitoring patients post-ECT. The nurse will also be responsible for tasks such as obtaining vital signs, printing cardiac monitor strips, starting IVs, drawing blood, and performing COVID swabs. This position is crucial for ensuring patient safety and recovery during and after ECT procedures.

Requirements

  • BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
  • Licensed Associate Professional Registered Nurse credentialed from the Alabama Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
  • Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing AND Required professional licensure at time of hire.
  • Must have one year of RN experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care to behavioral health patients in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the facility.
  • Perform initial and on-going bio-psychosocial assessments according to accepted standards of nursing practice.
  • Develop a nursing plan of care consistent with the master treatment plan.
  • Participate in treatment team conferences to assist in planning and revising goals, objectives and interventions appropriate to the age-related and problem-specific needs of each patient.
  • Implement nursing plan of care for assigned patients and conducts and/or co-leads group therapy sessions for patients.
  • Evaluate patient's response to interventions and revise nursing plan of care as needed.
  • Collaborate with the treatment team to revise goals, objectives and interventions appropriate to the changes in patient status.
  • Monitor patients as they are waking up after ECT.
  • Obtain Vital signs x3 for each patient and print a cardiac monitor strip.
  • Start IVs, draw blood, and swab for COVID.
