About The Position

Navitas Healthcare, LLC is seeking an experienced ECMO Specialist Registered Nurse for a 13-week travel assignment within a high-acuity Mechanical Circulatory Support program at a leading tertiary care and academic medical center in Upstate South Carolina. This role supports adult and pediatric critical care patients requiring Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) for life-threatening conditions including cardiogenic shock, ARDS, sepsis, trauma, and post-cardiac surgical complications. The ECMO Specialist works collaboratively with ICU RNs, respiratory therapists, and physician-led critical care teams to ensure safe and effective ECMO management. The environment offers exposure to complex, high-acuity cases within a structured, protocol-driven ECMO program emphasizing patient safety, clinical excellence, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (South Carolina or compact eligible)
  • Minimum 1+ year ECMO experience in a critical care setting
  • Completion of ECMO Specialist training or equivalent certification
  • Strong ICU background with high-acuity patient management experience
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications
  • Minimum 1 year experience using EPIC EMR
  • Ability to safely manage adult and pediatric critical care patients
  • Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and rapid decision-making skills

Nice To Haves

  • Previous travel ICU experience
  • Experience in CVICU and/or PICU environments
  • Exposure to multiple ECMO platforms and mechanical circulatory support devices
  • Experience with post-cardiac surgery and advanced cardiopulmonary failure cases

Responsibilities

  • Manage and monitor ECMO circuits under established clinical protocols
  • Assist with bedside cannulation and cannula repositioning procedures
  • Operate and troubleshoot ECMO systems (e.g., Cardiohelp, Centrimag)
  • Continuously assess hemodynamic status and device performance
  • Collaborate with ICU, respiratory therapy, and ECMO physician teams
  • Perform point-of-care testing, including bedside glucose monitoring
  • Follow ECMO order sets and institutional critical care protocols
  • Provide ECMO support across CVICU and PICU settings (adult and pediatric populations)
  • Document all care accurately and timely in EPIC EMR
  • Participate in ECMO competency maintenance and continuing education requirements
