About The Position

The Department of School Health Services is dedicated to providing the highest standard of nursing care in school and community settings to ensure student safety and enable them to reach their full educational potential. The team consists of nurses, care coordinators, health educators, health assistants, administrative staff, and screening and prevention specialists who deliver and coordinate specialized health services supporting students throughout Multnomah and Clackamas County. They are committed to employee and community wellness, advocating for students and families, collaborating with health systems and school-based health centers, conducting research to improve population health in schools, and utilizing evidence-based practices. The department supports the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) model, integrating education and health to foster child development. The EI/ECSE System specifically partners with families and caregivers to provide free, equitable, timely, and individualized services that enhance learning and development for infants, toddlers, and young children with disabilities, offering screening, evaluation, services, and support at no cost.

Requirements

  • Daily and consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Basic knowledge of applicable laws and nursing practice regulations and standards.
  • Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrates organization, leadership, and time management skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle available for use on the job.
  • Ability to become proficient navigating in internal and external data systems, including data entry and report production pertinent to delivery of school health services.
  • Ability to physically perform assigned duties.
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently with high degree of accuracy, efficiency and attention to detail.
  • Experience working with children ages birth to five (0–5 years) required.
  • Valid Oregon license to practice as a Registered Nurse.
  • Experience in the use of computer systems.
  • Current certification in CPR.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Early Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education (EI/ECSE) settings preferred.
  • Experience in an educational/school setting.
  • Bilingual in Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian or Somali.
  • Preferred BSN/BS in a health-related field.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive health services to students and school communities.
  • Implement the nursing process to plan and provide individualized nursing care, including delegation and training for emergencies, in accordance with school nursing practice standards and the Oregon Nurse Practice Act.
  • Manage school health services, including health screenings, communicable disease control, health education, and environmental monitoring.
  • Attain and integrate evidence-based knowledge and clinical competency, including appropriate technology and service delivery.
  • Collaborate with clients, families, school staff, colleagues, and other professionals and community members in delivering school health services.
  • Facilitate resource access and utilization for the school, student, and family to meet safety, health, and education needs.
  • Participate in the development and improvement of quality nursing practice.
  • Adhere to the rules and procedures of the licensing agency for the position's license.
  • Maintain a satisfactory job attendance record.
  • Use personal safety techniques to avoid exposure and injury.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by Director, Sr. Program Administrator and/or Supervisor, including attending meetings and participating in health-related events.
