About The Position

The Proctor 2 Dissociative Disorders/Trauma Unit provides world-class care for trauma and trauma-related disorders, such as PTSD and dissociative identity disorder. The program focuses on treating adults diagnosed with trauma-related disorders, who need resources to manage their disorders. Utilizing the nursing process, this role is responsible for providing for immediate and long-term nursing care needs of patients within the standards of the department, hospital, and regulatory agencies.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse [RN - State License] required
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to utilize the nursing process
  • Ability to work collaboratively

  • Bachelor's Degree Nursing preferred
  • One year medical/psychiatric experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Accurately assesses patients’ needs, utilizing multiple data sources to determine actual/potential health problems and functional status, and identifying patient strengths using a Recovery Oriented Framework.
  • Performs point of care testing and communicates findings effectively to the healthcare team.
  • Documents patient response to intervention and understanding of treatment interventions.
  • Identifies patient behaviors contributing to crisis development and utilizes de-escalation techniques.
  • Accurately plans nursing interventions, modifying and individualizing the Nursing Plan of Care and protocols.
  • Participates in the development of the multidisciplinary treatment plan and prioritizes patient care needs.
  • Partners with patients/families to support recovery goals.
  • Provides and implements safe, accurate, and timely medication administration using BMV scanning.
  • Reviews physician orders in a timely manner.
  • Promotes interventions that provide the least-restrictive alternatives and recovery-oriented goals.
  • Participates in leading patient groups.
  • Accurately evaluates the effectiveness of nursing care interventions, documenting response to intervention and understanding of treatment.
  • Communicates patients’ clinical status effectively at clinical team rounds and change of shift reports.
  • Utilizes evidence-based nursing knowledge to guide practice decisions.
  • Provides a leadership role in organizing and providing patient care, including direction and supervision of MHSs and delegation of care interventions.
  • Assumes a leadership role in medical and psychiatric emergencies and promotes/provides for critical incident de-briefing.
  • Anticipates acute milieu problems and delegates staff appropriately.
  • Participates in the training and education of RNs, MHSs, and other healthcare providers.
  • Provides for teaching needs of patient and significant others, documenting teaching and informing the treatment team of learning needs.
  • Maintains a commitment to professional growth and competency, completing mandatory in-service requirements and maintaining competency for the patient population.
  • Seeks constructive feedback and identifies strengths and areas for professional/practice development with a supervisor.
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal communication, maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Communicates positively, supportively, and with courtesy to patients and staff, presenting in a professional manner.
  • Contributes to the productivity and cost-effectiveness of the hospital, department, and unit through effective time management and economical management of services and supplies.
  • Notifies shift coordinator/charge nurse of availability for additional assignments.
