About The Position

Kindred Hospital Indianapolis North is seeking a Registered Nurse for Dialysis, PRN Days. This role provides professional nursing care to patients requiring renal replacement therapy within the hospital. The Registered Nurse will plan and provide patient care in accordance with physician orders and hospital policies, ensuring quality direct patient care and renal replacement therapies are administered independently, professionally, and respectfully. This position involves supervising and directing other team members, collaborating with hospital partners, and documenting patient assessments, treatments, and observations accurately in the medical records. The nurse will also analyze patient data, communicate critical information to physicians and supervisors, and perform initiation and discontinuation of renal replacement therapy. The role may require transferring skills to other hospital settings and participating in hospital orientation and meetings. Additionally, the nurse will ensure accurate charge submission, mentor teammates in hemodialysis and PD modalities, participate in Quality Improvement initiatives, and act as a resource or preceptor for less experienced staff and other hospital personnel.

Requirements

  • Current RN license in the state of practice required.
  • Current BLS certification through American Heart Association.
  • Associate Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program is required.
  • Two or more years of experience as a registered nurse.
  • Must read, write, and speak fluent English.
  • Must have good and regular attendance.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate of an accredited Bachelors of Science in Nursing preferred.
  • At least one year of acute or chronic dialysis experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of the Hemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis Process.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and oversee the dialysis process performed by Dialysis Technicians.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide treatments in a safe, therapeutic and cost-effective manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to assist with providing quality outcomes and tracking of metrics.
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency in MS Word and Outlook required.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and provides patient care for adult and geriatric patients in the hospital according to physician orders and hospital policy and procedures.
  • Provides quality direct patient care and renal replacement therapies independently, in a professional, considerate, and respectful manner.
  • Supervises and directs patient care of other teammates in a treatment area.
  • Interacts and communicates with hospital partners in a collaborative, respectful manner; gives pre and post treatment reports to the primary registered nurse.
  • Documents patient’s physical assessment, vital signs, treatment reviews, and observations in patient medical records.
  • Brings patient issues to the attention of the physician and primary nurse.
  • Documents, evaluates, and implements dialysis orders.
  • Analyzes patient assessments, dialysis orders, laboratory results, and discusses issues with the nephrologist.
  • Communicates emergencies, patient life-threatening complications, and related incidents to supervisor, hospital staff, and the patient’s physician.
  • Provides initiation and discontinuation of the prescribed renal replacement therapy, including formulating a plan per physician orders, verifying safety measures, administering medications or treatments, and documenting all activity.
  • Demonstrates the ability to transfer skill set and work in other Hospital settings when required.
  • Attends Hospital orientation, homeroom meetings, and mandatory in-services as required.
  • Verifies accurate charges and documentation are submitted in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform and mentor for modalities hemodialysis and PD.
  • Fosters Quality Improvement by participating in Quality Meetings.
  • Acts as a resource or preceptor for teammates with less experience.
  • Acts as a resource or subject matter expert for other hospital personnel.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
