About The Position

The Eastern Colorado Veterans Healthcare System (ECHCS) provides comprehensive healthcare services to veterans across a wide region. This role specifically involves providing hemodialysis to both inpatients and outpatients in an outpatient chronic dialysis facility, as well as providing inpatient dialysis to the ICU. Hemodialysis for critical care patients is done in the critical care units, while other patients are transported to the dialysis unit. The Registered Nurse will provide comprehensive nursing care to patients with end-stage renal disease, utilizing the nursing process according to established procedures and policies. This includes performing hemodialysis via fistula, graft, or venous catheter and operating specialized equipment.

Requirements

  • Completed courses for nursing from an accredited program approved by either the Commission for Education in Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
  • A current license in at least one state, territory, or commonwealth in the U.S. or the District of Columbia.
  • A minimum of two years' direct patient care experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hemodialysis to both inpatients and outpatients.
  • Provide inpatient dialysis to the ICU.
  • Provide treatment utilizing the nursing process, according to the written procedures and policies of the hemodialysis unit.
  • Perform hemodialysis via a fistula, graft, or venous catheter.
  • Operate and monitor specialized equipment including, but not limited to portable dialysis machines, CRRT machines, oxygen, hypothermia units, various types of suction apparatus, infusion equipment, PCA, epidural pumps, sequential compression devices, cardio-respiratory monitors, vital sign monitors, and assist with patients in the Intensive Care settings who have invasive hemodynamic catheters, monitors, and ventilators.
