The Inpatient Diabetes Education Department provides comprehensive support and education for patients managing diabetes. Our certified diabetes care and education specialists (CDCEs) offer personalized counseling, lifestyle modification strategies, and hands-on training to help individuals understand their condition and effectively manage blood sugar levels.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• BSN required; MSN preferred.
• Current California State RN License required.
• American Red Cross or American Heart Association Basic Cardiac Life Support certification.
• Certified Diabetes Educator certification ( CDCES ).
• Minimum 3 years recent acute RN experience.
• Two (2) years experience in diabetes/endocrinology preferred.
• Working knowledge of applicable Standards of Practice.
• Demonstrated dedication to customer service and ability to meet the needs and expectations of patients and health care colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Provide resources and guidance on healthy eating, exercise, medication management, and blood glucose monitoring.
• Empower patients to make informed decisions and prevent complications through ongoing education and support.
• Manage and adjust diabetes treatment plan in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to maintain safe and effective glycemic control in hospitalized patients
• Serve as an expert in diabetes technology, assisting patients and healthcare providers with diabetes sensors and insulin pumps.
