Requirements
- Vulnerable Sector Check
- Current Certification of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Bilingualism (English/French)
- BScN (current or in progress)
- Certified Diabetes Educator (in progress or ability to achieve within one year)
- Certified insulin pump trainer
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Strong teaching skills
- Demonstrated professionalism and interest in self development
- Demonstrated strong family centered care skills
Nice To Haves
- Minimum two years Diabetes Paediatric experience
- Ambulatory Care experience
- Advanced computer skills (Excel, Word, Epic, pump and meter downloads)
Responsibilities
- Assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for individual patients and families living with type 1 diabetes.
- Providing care for patients on or transitioning to insulin pump therapy.
- Functioning independently and as a member of the Diabetes team to provide family-focused and evidence-based nursing practice.
- Acting as a Diabetes Nurse Educator and managing the insulin pump program.
- Providing telephone counselling for families.
- Extensive teaching of families and other health care professionals.
- Participating in all clinical activities.
- Participating in research.
- Engaging in continuous learning to develop expertise in the specialty.
- Developing electronic and educational resources for diabetes care and the insulin pump program.
