The Cardiac ICU (CCU) is an 15-bed cardiac intensive care unit that uses advanced therapies and technologies to care for acute patient populations. The staff works together to address complex patient needs in a supportive environment. We are seeking candidates interested in advancing their nursing practice and learning alongside outstanding clinical mentors. As a multidisciplinary unit within a major academic medical center, extensive training is provided to our nurses to grow their skills via a phased approach. The team works with patients with acute coronary syndromes, arrhythmias, and those who’ve experienced cardiac arrest. The CCU is also involved in caring for individuals with congestive heart failure, including patients implanted with a ventricular assist device (VAD) or other heart pumps. Mechanical circulatory support in the CCU includes IABP, Impella, and the use of VA ECMO. In addition, CCU nurses manage patients requiring invasive monitoring, vasoactive medications, continuous renal replacement therapies, and ventilator support. The unit is located in the Klarman Building, a state-of-the-art patient care environment. The spectacular new space is designed to optimize the experience for patients and providers and includes a rooftop healing garden for patients, families, and caregivers.
