About The Position

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse for a Critical Care Stepdown Unit - PVSU (Progressive Ventilator Stepdown Unit). This unit specializes in the treatment of patients on mechanical ventilators, with most patients admitted from an Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The PVSU focuses on maximizing rehabilitation while continuing to treat the cause of the illness through intensive physical therapy, respiratory care, and mental stimulation. The unit has a nurse/patient ratio of 3:1 based upon nursing acuity. New graduate RNs are welcome to apply and will participate in an 11-week Transition to Practice program, which is the start of a comprehensive 6-month residency program for new graduates.

Requirements

  • Registered nursing License (Required)
  • Students in the process of obtaining a Registered Nursing License.
  • BLS required within 90 days of hire
  • None required (for experience)

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science Nursing- BSN or MSN
  • Students in the process of completing an accredited nursing program.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process.
  • Utilize the standards of practice including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and coordination of care (teaching and health promotion and evaluation).
  • Adhere to the standards of professional performance including ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice/nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health.
  • Possess clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.
