About The Position

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking a Registered Nurse for their Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as part of a specialty training opportunity. This role involves providing nursing care to high-risk critically ill clients with unpredictable outcomes, often attached to life-support equipment, and clients in post-anaesthetic recovery. The position operates within a client and family-centred care model, adhering to the standards of practice set by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM), the Code of Ethics, and VCH's mission, vision, values, objectives, and policies. The role requires independent work and collaboration within an interdisciplinary team, focusing on enhancing client/family quality of life, consulting with other healthcare providers, demonstrating expertise and leadership in nursing practice, and maintaining clinical competence. Participation in designated hospital committees/teams and approved research projects may also be required. Requirements

  • Resume and cover letter required to apply for this specialty training opportunity.
  • Eligibility for post-basic training education is prioritized for applicants with approximately two years recent acute medical/surgical experience upon critical care program full-time start date.
  • Must successfully complete the post-basic training education prior to working in the Department.
  • Candidates accepting this training opportunity agree to remain with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as a regular status nurse in the area of nursing applicable to the education program for which they are hired for at least 18 months subsequent to completing training.
  • In the event that a candidate leaves the area of nursing applicable to the education program for which they were hired or VCH in under 18 months, VCH will seek to recover the cost of the program.
  • As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections.
