This role is a Registered Nurse Coordinator – Hematology Oncology with Flexible Hours and a Hybrid role at the Lank Cancer Center | Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Needham.
Requirements
- Associate’s Degree in Nursing (BSN preferred)
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- 3–5 years of related nursing experience
- Oncology nursing experience
- Proficiency with electronic medical records and web-based applications
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Nice To Haves
- Outpatient oncology experience
- Care coordination or nurse navigator experience
Responsibilities
- Educate patients and families on chemotherapy and immunotherapy
- Provide guidance, reassurance, and clear communication throughout treatment
- Prepare patients for treatment initiation, including: Pre-treatment staging, Laboratory work and diagnostic testing, Venous access placement
- Serve as a clinical liaison between BIDMC Boston and BID Needham providers
- Support Hematology/Oncology physicians and nurse practitioners with: Telephone triage, Medication prescription renewals, Outside laboratory ordering
- Coordinate care with: Visiting Nurse Association (VNA), Hospice and home care agencies, Cardiology, Endocrinology, Genetics, Nutrition, Social Work, Physical Therapy, and Palliative Care
- Assist with pre-authorization processes
- Ensure accurate scheduling of consultations, diagnostics, and treatments
- Perform patient assessments and collect clinical histories
- Participate in rounds, case conferences, and quality improvement initiatives
- Contribute to process and care delivery improvements in outpatient oncology
