About The Position

The RN Consultant provides consultative services to assist people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities to achieve their best possible health. To promote healthy lifestyles, Nursing Consultants assist individuals with a variety of daily health-related tasks, which may include advocating with their healthcare providers for them to receive routine and preventative healthcare, presenting options that would improve the person's health to the individual and their support team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science or Associate Degree in Nursing.
  • Active Registered Nurse licensure for the state of Delaware without restrictions.
  • Developmental Disabilities Nursing Association certification
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a similar capacity, including previous supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Complete the coordination and process of training delegated nursing tasks and provide ongoing support.
  • Maintain and review healthcare records of persons served to monitor pertinent issues and provide thorough documentation, including preparation of related reports.
  • Develop and maintain effective therapeutic relationships with the individual’s circle of support, including paid and unpaid caregivers, their families, and other natural supports.
  • Quality control of medication administration process, documentation, and error reporting
  • Development and preparation of required reports of the individuals health status
  • Provide nursing support and consultation in accordance with the state’s Nurse Practice Act and physician orders.
  • Provide health-related education to the unlicensed workforce and the person served (such as medication administration and infection control).
  • Provide comprehensive ongoing nursing assessments, planning and monitoring of the health status of people served to promote their best possible health.
  • Ensure individuals receive routine and preventative health services according to their gender, age, and specific health conditions.
  • Establish open communication with external healthcare providers to advocate for essential health services.
