The Medical Oncology department at the Hendrick Cancer and Rehab Center is Southern Virginia’s premier cancer resource to provide advanced care for cancer and blood disorders. The care team delivers expert cancer care to patients with all types of cancer with the most common being breast, lung, prostate, and colorectal. In partnership with specialists at Community Memorial Hospital and VCU Health, the Medical Oncology department provides patients with multidisciplinary evaluations. Treatment is administered using chemotherapy, hormone therapy, immunotherapy, and other medications and targeted agents. The infusion nurse care team administers chemotherapy and infusion medications in the infusion center which consists of nine chemotherapy chairs. Oncology nurses have the opportunity to become experts in their specialty through various certifications including biochemotherapy courses and oncology-specific certifications. The oncology department is accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer and is partnered with VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center. The cancer center prides itself in providing patients with additional care consisting of clinical trials, genetic testing, survivorship care, and nutritional and psychosocial services.
