About The Position

The Registered Nurse - Circulator OR delivers and coordinates patient care for patients undergoing operative procedures through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and education. The role performs duties in compliance with applicable laws and regulations, accrediting agency standards, and professional nursing standards, recommended practices, and guidelines of AORN, Inc. The nurse assesses patients’ physical and psychological status and health history; verifies patient identity, surgical site, and procedure; and plans individualized care incorporating patient and family input. The nurse implements orders and care plans, maintains infection control, monitors equipment, handles specimens, performs surgical-item counts, communicates relevant information to care providers, and participates in emergency responses. The role also requires knowledge of circulating, scrub, second-scrub, and first-assistant responsibilities.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
Ohio nursing licensure, or current licensure in the facility’s state; where applicable, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state is accepted.
Minimum of one year of medical/surgical experience.
BLS Provider certification upon hire and before the start date.

Nice To Haves

One year of perioperative experience preferred.
ACLS preferred.
CNOR certification preferred.

Responsibilities

Use the nursing process to provide and coordinate care for patients undergoing operative procedures.
Assess patients by collecting data about physical and psychological status and health history.
Verify patient identification, correct surgical site, and correct surgical procedure.
Perform fire-risk assessments and maintain knowledge of fire prevention.
Plan individualized patient care and incorporate patient and family input.
Implement physician orders, treatments, and care-plan interventions in a timely manner and according to schedule.
Implement patient care, including infection control, monitoring equipment, handling specimens, and counting surgical items.
Evaluate and prioritize patient-care decisions.
Communicate relevant information to the care provider.
Verify the procedure performed and wound classification with the surgeon.
Maintain knowledge of the circulator, scrub, second-scrub, and first-assistant roles.
Participate and respond appropriately in emergency situations.
Use the medication administration system and comply with its requirements.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
